In conjunction with The Vision Council, the leading advocate for the optical industry, SJEA will be highlighting the importance of sports sunglasses in protecting eyes from the sun’s harmful rays and enhancing outdoor experiences.

National Sunglasses Day, an annual event established by The Vision Council, aims to raise awareness about the significance of wearing sunglasses for eye health and protection. This year, the campaign will focus on sports sunglasses, encouraging outdoor enthusiasts to gear up with shades before engaging in their favorite activities.

June is Cataract Awareness Month. Cataracts are a leading cause of blindness among older adults in the United States and more than half of all Americans have cataracts by the time they are 80 years old.

To delay a cataract, we recommend wearing sunglasses and a hat with a brim to block the sun’s ultraviolet rays. If you smoke, please STOP.

Be sure to schedule a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year, where your doctor at SJEA can check for signs of cataract and other age-related eye problems such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. Early treatment for these other eye diseases may save your vision.
