SOUTH JERSEY EYE ASSOCIATES SUPPLIES FREE CONTACT LENS CARE KITS TO LOCAL SCHOOLS FOR THE SIXTH STRAIGHT YEAR

South Jersey Eye Associates School Giveaway Program Aims to Assist School Nurses in Curtailing Improper Lens Care Among Students

SJEA_ContactLensCareKit_PR

Hayley and Nathaly help prepare contact lens care kits to go out to school nurses in Cumberland and Salem Counties.

(August 2015) – South Jersey Eye Associates (SJEA) is continuing its tradition of distributing complimentary contact lens care kits to nurses at over 30 schools in Cumberland and Salem Counties for the sixth straight year. Launched in 2010, the giveaway program has won praise from school nurses and administrators throughout the area.

SJEA’s optometric physicians Dr. Robert M. Cole, Dr. Michael A. Feinstein, and Dr. Brandon J. Wuzzardo are supplying the free Alcon OPTI-FREE® Pure Moist® care kits to schools as part of their effort to reduce improper contact lens care among students.

“Improper lens care among children and teens can lead to conditions like pink eye, corneal ulcers, injuries, and infections that can present a significant risk to the eyes,” says Dr. Cole. “By making these lens care kits available to school nurses, our goal is to prevent many of these problems before they start.”

“Students often aren’t prepared to remove or reinsert their contacts at school,” adds Dr. Feinstein. “They sometimes skip the proper routine or try to take shortcuts that can lead to trouble.”

Dr. Wuzzardo, who regularly visits local schools to deliver educational presentations, is encouraged by the feedback he’s received about the program, saying, “School nurses tell us they make use of these kits on a regular basis. They especially come in handy for those students who are in after school activities or sports. It’s nice to hear that the program is having a positive effect.”

“Most school budgets can’t cover expenses like lens care kits,” explains Dr. Cole. “We’re glad to be able to help in some way.”

SJEA is sending the contact lens care kit to nurse’s offices at the following schools:
